Welding simulator teaches new welders with virtual reality

FlintSystems' Weles VR welding simulator

Flint Systems has introduced the Weles virtual reality welding simulator designed to offer realistic training. The simulator comprises physical components based on real welding tools, integrated with a VR-based training application.

The simulator offers a variety of features and capabilities, allowing for the practice of various welding methods, including GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW. Future welders can select appropriate electrodes, set welding parameters, and practice different welding positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead) to hone their skills in a controlled and safe manner.

The simulator allows for the adjustment of welding current intensity and polarity, gas mixture composition, gas flow rate, wire feed speed, filler material, electrode type and diameter, and welded material thickness. Simulated training environments include shipyards, indoor facilities, and ship interiors.

The simulator also includes haptic elements such as a glove that emits heat. Additionally, the welding torch handles feature movable electrodes and arc-breaking simulation. The set includes a welding helmet with built-in VR goggles.
