Inspection system measures tube position and temperature during production

Xiris Automation has introduced its Pre-Weld Inspection System for HF tube mills. It measures and tracks the position and temperatures of various features of the tube as it heats up and is formed at the induction coil.

The system uses a thermal camera specifically designed to measure temperature in the range of hot metals (350 to 1,800 degrees C). Featuring easy setup and tolerance limit definition, the system reports results in real time to the operator, the company reports.

It monitors dimensional features such as V angle and V length, as well as actual temperatures of the strip edges, weld point, and resulting bead, to detect whether the tube welding process remains in control. All thermal image video and extracted feature data can be recorded for further evaluation.
