Turn/mill center features swiveling B axis

Methods Machine Tools Inc. has introduced the Nakamura-Tome NTJ-100 multitasking turn/mill center. Applications include low- to high-volume lots of medical, aerospace, and general job shop components.

The machine offers fast tool changes of up to 54 toolstations for turning and 24 toolstations for milling, the company reports. Two high-rigidity turrets, each with a Y axis — 3.5 in. on the upper and 2.6 in. on the lower — help facilitate pinch turn and pinch mill operations. An upper-turret B axis that swivels 182 degrees is suitable for producing angular features, eliminating the requirement for angle milling heads.

Maximum turning diameter is 6.9 in., and maximum turning length is 26.7 in. Standard bar capacity is 1.6 in.; maximum is 2.6 in.
