Milling machine control includes optional turning functions

The TNC 640 milling machine control from Heidenhain includes optional turning functions. Turning operations can be enabled on a milling machine, allowing the operator to transition from milling to turning cycles in the same program. The turning operations can be programmed in plain text, just like the milling operations. Comprehensive turning cycles are available for frequently repeated operations, such as roughing, finishing recessing, and thread cutting.

The control is based on the company’s HCSI digital interface hardware platform. This reduces cabling during setup. It includes a 19-in. screen and an operating panel with stainless steel fronts. The smartSelect function simplifies cycle selection, and syntax color highlighting helps improve clarity for machine program editing.
