Machines perform linear ID/OD broaching with one tool

Benz Inc. offers two broaching systems that perform rotary and linear broaching for the machine tool industry. Both tools enable machine shops to perform linear ID and OD broaching with one tool.
The new LinA broaching system changes the rotary motion of the live tool turret into a linear motion for broach and spline machining on turning centers. The programmer can position the Z axis to the start position and program a constant X feed until the broach depth has been achieved, at 1,000 RPM/1,000 SPM. It uses an integrated feature that lifts the tool 0.006 in. off the material on the return stroke. It can machine a typical 0.375- by 0.187- by 1.250-in. keyway in steel in 6 to 8 sec.
The LinS broaching tool system enables programmers to broach splines, torx, hex, and keyways on their machining centers. By rotating the spindle at 50 RPM, the system provides spindle and bearing protection and eliminates oscillating spindle conditions while broaching from a variety of angles. The unit also can be adjusted manually to provide 360-degree rotation.
