Grooving, cutoff system adds PH geometry

WIDIA™ has introduced the WMT™ grooving and cutoff system with new PH geometry, designed for plunging and turning in materials harder than 35 HRC or in heavily interrupted cuts in a variety of work materials.

One toolholder seats whatever insert geometries are needed: PT for plunging and turning, PC for plunging and contouring, CM for cutoff (or CM-W with wiper), and the new PH geometry for plunging and turning hard materials.

The toolholder is engineered with an extra-long clamping area for insert stability. The proprietary Double V system simplifies the secure seating of inserts in the toolholder pocket. Such positioning and system rigidity help improve accuracy and tool life in face grooving, ID grooving, OD grooving, plunging, or profiling, says the manufacturer.

With its 90-degree top and bottom clamping design, rigid cutting edges, and positive geometry, the insert handles steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The WU25PT grade for interrupted cutting features a PVD TiAlN coating to help extend tool life.
