Small robots offer large work envelope

ABB Robotics has introduced the IRB 1200, a new family of small robots that feature a compact footprint and a large work envelope for material handling, machine tending, and small-parts assembly applications.

The robot is designed with no offset in axis 2, delivering a longer stroke that allows the robot to be placed very close to the workpiece and still be functional. Combined with other features, the longer stroke enables up to 15 percent smaller workcells and 10 percent shorter cycle times than comparable robots, the company reports.

Two models are available: a 27.5-in.-reach robot with a payload of up to 15.43 lbs., and a longer-reach 35.43-in. model with a payload up to 11.02 lbs. Both models can be mounted at any angle and come with IP 40 protection as standard; IP 67 protection is available as an option.
