Steelhead Composites acquires metal spin forming technology

Steelhead Composites, a Denver-based designer and manufacturer of lightweight pressure vessels, has purchased and installed a heavy-duty CNC neck forming machine manufactured by MJC Eng. and Technology. The machine is designed for manufacturing high-pressure cylinders, allowing the fabrication of aluminum cylinders up to 16.7 in. dia. and up to 10 ft. long.

The machine shapes a seamless aluminum tube to form a bottle with a domed end and port openings. The company then wraps the bottle with carbon fiber composite and performs in-house testing. The machine also is used to manufacture lightweight hydraulic accumulators.
