Laboratory Testing celebrates 30th anniversary

Laboratory Testing Inc., Hatfield, Pa., an accredited material testing and metrology lab, marks 30 years in business in 2014. The company originated as the NDT division of Carson Helicopter in 1976. In 1984 Robert (Bob) McVaugh Sr. purchased his partner’s share of Carson NDT, incorporated as Laboratory Testing Inc., and moved to a 30,000-sq.-ft. building in Dublin, Pa.

Today the company employs 145 people in a 91,500-sq.-ft. facility, offering NDT, chemical analysis, mechanical testing, metallography, failure analysis, specimen machining, dimensional inspection, and calibration services.

In 1992 the lab formed LTI Metrology to oversee a new branch of inspection services—instrument calibration. In 1994 Mike McVaugh, previously NDT manager, was named president. In the 2000s the company purchased Gage Lab Corp. to expand its calibration capabilities and built a 12,000-sq.-ft. addition. New mechanical testing and metallography labs were completed during the past year, and work on the chemistry lab is beginning this month.
