Aleris expands in Kentucky

Aleris has announced plans for a $350 million expansion to its 1.6 million-sq.-ft. mill in Lewisport, Ky. The expansion will allow the company to manufacture aluminum sheet for vehicle bodies, with shipping to begin by early 2017. The company expects to add 60 employees.

"This is the next step in our strategy to produce more transportation-related aluminum," said Andy Ishmael, vice president of North America Automotive for Aleris. "As fuel efficiency grows globally, we expect to grow with that."
